Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to organize our Southern Division Conference on Feb. 27-Mar. 1, 2014 at the University of North Florida (Gordon Brock, host) in Jacksonville! It is truly an honor to serve the profession in this way. The theme of our three days together is:

Teaching, Conducting and Performing with Informed Inspiration

Our featured guest artist for the conference is our esteemed colleague recently retired from the University of Colorado, Allan McMurray. He will be joining us for a number of sessions to inspire all of us, and I'm SURE you will not want to miss them!

The conference hotel is conveniently located near eating establishments and will be attached via shuttle to the UNF facilities as well as Town Center, which has even more dining options.

Conference activities will begin after lunch on Thursday, Feb. 27 and conclude with evening performances on Saturday, March 1.

I look forward to seeing everyone in Jacksonville!

Mark Spede
Clemson University
CBDNA Southern Division President

The 2014 CBDNA/NBA Southern Division Conference is fast approaching, and I am confident this will be the best one yet! We are excited that Gordon Brock and the University of North Florida will be our hosts on their beautiful campus in Jacksonville. In addition, concerts will be held in the stunning Lazzara Performance Hall.

I'd like to thank the members of the NBA Performing Group Selection Committee who had a difficult task of selecting the guest bands from among a competitive field of fine music programs in the South. This year's conference will showcase excellence in instrumental music on many levels. NBA bands performing this year represent the states of Alabama, Florida, and Louisiana.

In addition, I would like to thank Dr. Mark Spede, the CBDNA Southern Division President, and our conference hosts, who have worked diligently throughout the course of the year to create what I believe will be the best Southern Division Conference to date.

Please make plans to join us. It will be a musically enriching experience.

On behalf of the University of North Florida's College of Arts and Sciences and Music Flagship Program, welcome to Jacksonville, Florida!   The University of North Florida is thrilled and honored to host this year's 2014 CBDNA/NBA Southern Division Conference, and look forward to sharing our facilities with our friends and colleagues.

Recognized by Forbes Magazine, U.S. News & World Report and Princeton Review as one of the finest regional colleges, UNF remains committed to the educational enhancement of our extended community. Currently enrolling more than 16,000 students, the academic profile reflects an incoming freshmen class with an average GPA of 3.9, SAT score of 1215 and an ACT score of 26. Situated on 1,381 acres - more than 300 of which are natural preserves - and seven certified buildings that meet "green" standards, we continue our resolve to be environmentally friendly.

As one of the six Flagship programs on campus, our department continues to be one of the fastest-growing music programs in the region. Our performance and classroom facilities opened in 2001 and are a continued source of pride.  We look forward to providing an excellent performance and lecture venue for our conference.

On behalf of my UNF colleagues and President John Delaney, we welcome you to our beautiful campus.
